Christmas Bark is a scrumptious holiday treat that you can prepare in minutes. It makes for a quick last-minute gift for family, neighbors, friends, and co-workers. The bark is easily customized, and you might even have some of the ingredients in your pantry right now.

This Christmas bark is right up your busy alley. You can melt the chocolate chips in the microwave to make cleanup quick. The bark sets fast and is easily modified to what you have on hand. Please see below for add-ins to Christmas bark.
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Chocolate chips: semi-sweet or dark
- White chocolate: melting wafers as it melts and spread much better than white chocolate chips
- Coconut oil: or shortening for thinning the chocolate
- Toppings: pretzels, nuts, chopped candy, chopped cookies, sprinkles
How To Make Christmas Bark
Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Add the chocolate and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or shortening to a microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 1 minute at 50% power and stir until the bowl no longer feels warm. Continue microwaving at 45-second intervals with 50% power, stirring between intervals, until the chocolate is melted. Pour the chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Tilt the cookie sheet to get the chocolate to spread.
White chocolate takes more patience, and I recommend using premium white chocolate melting wafers. If they are not available, use the Guittard white chocolate chips. Pour the melted chocolate on the covered baking sheet and tilt to get the chocolate to spread.
Quickly add your candies, pretzels, nuts, and sprinkles. The chocolate sets relatively fast so have everything ready to go. Allow it to set for several hours in the coolest part of the kitchen. Break it up into pieces and store it in an airtight container at room temperature.
Toppings of Your Choice
- Pretzels: such as snaps, minis, and sticks
- M&M’s: Christmas colored
- Nuts: such as peanuts, sliced or slivered almonds, chopped pecans, and chopped walnuts
- Candy pieces: such as Reese’s pieces, Heath Bars, Twix Bars, Andes Mints, peppermints, or candy canes
Frequently Asked Questions
Store the bark in an airtight container in a cool section of the kitchen. If pretzels, cookies, or marshmallows are used, the storage life is about one week because these foods could potentially go stale. If you stick with candy, nuts, and sprinkles, it lasts about two weeks.
You can theoretically, but it may affect the quality of the chocolate, so I try to avoid it.

- Repeat with white chocolate and 1 tablespoons coconut oil or shortening.
