How to make a Blueberry Smoothie
Add the ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses or cups, and garnish with fresh fruit or mint if desired.
Are blueberry smoothies good for you?
How can you go wrong with fruit, Greek yogurt, and milk? Greek Yogurt provides an excellent source of calcium and probiotics for a healthy gut and good bacteria balance. With 1/2 cup of blueberries per serving, these smoothies contain antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Milk provides nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D.
Blueberry Smoothie Variations
- Liquid – apple juice, grape juice, almond milk, oat milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk
- Fruit – blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, pineapple, mango, or peach.
- More Protein – flax seeds, oats, protein powder, peanut butter, chia seeds, or almond butter.
- Go Green – spinach, kale, chard, or collard greens.
How to thicken up a smoothie
Maybe you got a little carried away with the liquid and added more than you wanted. Your smoothie is a little thin, and you want to thicken it up. Try oats, protein powder, frozen fruits or vegetables, and nut butters like peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or ice for an extra creamy texture.
Recipe tips
- Freeze bananas with their jackets on.
- Instead of buying a whole bag of frozen blueberries, wash fresh blueberries, shake as much water out of them as possible, and place them in a freezer-safe bowl in the freezer for about 1-2 hours.
- I find this smoothie naturally sweet from the frozen berries and banana, but if desired, add just 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup or honey.
- Any dairy or non-dairy milk works with this smoothie.
- Any yogurt will work with this recipe. I prefer plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt for its nutritional value. Try different flavors like vanilla or blueberry.
Storage
Smoothies are always best consumed as soon as they are made while still frosty and refreshing. If you must save some, place it in an airtight container in the freezer and reblend before enjoying.

Smoothies are great tasting and, depending on how they are made, are usually healthy, too! They often have a good deal of calories, but they are calories well spent and it’s tough to beat a recipe like this one, made with greek yogurt and fresh blueberries.

So tired of every smoothie using bananas. For those of us who are deathly allergic to bananas, maybe suggest alternatives. They do exist.
