This Brussels sprouts recipe combines pan-sauteed Brussels sprouts with crispy bacon, garlic, and a drizzle of maple syrup. This delicious side dish goes well with roasted pork loin, roasted chicken, grilled steak, and pan-fried Polska Kielbasa.
How to Make Brussels Sprouts with Bacon
- First, cook the bacon in a large skillet until crispy. You can do this as whole slices or as chopped raw bacon. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and reserve the bacon grease. If cooked as whole slices, chop the bacon
- Melt a tablespoon of butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the Brussels sprouts and stir to coat them with the bacon grease and butter. Cook until golden brown and fork tender.
- Reduce the heat and add the garlic. Cook for 1 minute while stirring.
- Add the cooked chopped bacon back to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle with maple syrup and toss to coat.
Recipe Tips
- Look for Brussels sprouts that are bright green and firm to the touch with tightly layered leaves. Small to medium size sprouts are usually sweeter and more tender than larger ones.
- Prep the Brussels Sprouts by trimming off the rough ends and removing any blemished or yellowed leaves.
- Cut the Brussels sprouts in half from top to bottom, cutting right through the middle of the core at the bottom. Then, please give them a quick rinse and pat dry.
- In this recipe, I cut the bacon raw and cook it in the skillet. However, you can cook the bacon as slices in the skillet and then chop it or bake it in the oven until crispy and chop it.
What to serve with Brussels Sprouts and Bacon
Almost any beef, pork, chicken, or fish goes well with these Brussels sprouts, but here are a few of my favorites.
- New York Strip Steak
- Lemon Pepper Chicken
- Grilled Flank Steak
- Pan Fried Pork Chops
- Grilled Chicken
- Grilled Pork Tenderloin
Storage and Reheat
Store leftover Brussels Sprouts in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave at reduced power for 30-second increments until warm. Or reheat in a skillet on the stovetop over low heat until warm.
