This delicious and easy Cheeseburger Pie is made with ground beef, bacon, onions, cheddar, Pepperjack Cheese, and Bisquick Baking Mix. It combines all the delicious flavors of cheesy burgers in pie form. This “Impossible Cheeseburger Pie” is always a huge hit with family and friends.
For an over-the-top meal, serve with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onion. Bisquick’s “impossible pies” grew in popularity in the 1970s when Betty Crocker’s recipe first appeared on boxes of Bisquick.
What’s In This Post
Easy Ingredients – Great Meal
- Ground Beef: use ground beef with a little fat in it. Fat is what gives it flavor.
- Bacon
- Vegetables: onion and garlic
- Seasonings: salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Ketchup: or barbecue sauce if you prefer more of a tang
- Cheese: cheddar and Pepper Jack cheese
- Bisquick baking mix: see below for how to make it if you can not purchase it
- Milk: I use cow’s milk
- Eggs: large
How to make Cheeseburger Pie
Start by browning the ground beef and bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. When the beef and bacon are about halfway browned, add the chopped onion. Cook the beef and bacon until browned and the onion is soft. Reduce the heat to low and add the garlic, cooking for a minute while stirring. Drain any excess grease. Remove from the heat and stir in the seasoned salt, black pepper, and ketchup. Let it cool for a few minutes.
Once cooled, stir in the cheese and spoon the mixture into a deep dish 9-inch pie plate sprayed with nonstick baking spray. In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick Baking Mix, milk, and eggs. Pour it over the hamburger cheese mixture and bake in a preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean. Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing.
Recipe Tips
- Ground turkey or ground chicken can be substituted for the ground beef.
- You can serve your choice of toppings on the side. I like to serve it with shredded lettuce, dill pickles, tomatoes, and onions.
- You can substitute other kinds of cheese that melt well, like Monterey Jack, Gouda, Swiss, Gruyere, Muenster, Provolone, mozzarella, and Colby Jack.
- If desired, sprinkle an extra layer of shredded cheese on the hamburger pie before baking.
How To Make Cheeseburger Pie Without Bisquick
You may not have Bisquick mix available to you, but you can still make this with easy pantry staples. Simply replace the mix with this simple recipe.
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons shortening or butter
Whisk the first three ingredients together in a bowl. Cut the shortening in with a pastry knife until the mixture is crumbly. Then, proceed with the rest of the recipe by mixing in the milk and eggs.
What To Top This Cheeseburger Pie With
There are so many options. Try pickled jalapenos, lettuce, sliced tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, coleslaw, pickles, sauteed mushrooms and onions, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, or southern comeback sauce.
Storage and Reheat
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. They can also be reheated in the microwave at reduced power.
Freeze leftovers in a sturdy container for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat in the microwave at reduced power.

Impossible Cheeseburger Pie Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 4 slices bacon chopped
- 1 small onion chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
- ¼ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ⅔ cup shredded cheddar
- ⅔ cup shredded Pepper Jack Cheese
- ¾ cup Bisquick baking mix
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a 9-inch pie pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- Brown the ground beef and bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. When the beef and bacon are about halfway browned, add the chopped onion. Continue cooking until the beef and bacon are browned, and the onion is soft.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the garlic, cooking for a minute while stirring. Drain any excess grease. Remove from the heat and stir in the seasoned black pepper and ketchup. Let it cool for a few minutes.
- Stir in the cheese and spoon the ground beef mixture into a deep dish pie pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick Baking Mix, milk, and eggs. Pour the Bisquick batter over the hamburger cheese mixture and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean. Let the pie cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Don’t risk dropping your browned ground beef or bacon into the sink. Simply tilt the pan and use a paper towel to absorb the grease.
- I use 80/20 ground beef because it cooks up less dry with more flavor.
- Serve your choice of toppings on the side. I like to serve it with shredded lettuce, dill pickles, tomatoes, and onions.
- You can substitute other kinds of cheese that melt well like Monterey Jack, Gouda, Swiss, Gruyere, Muenster, Provolone, mozzarella, and Colby Jack.
- If desired sprinkle an extra layer of shredded cheese of the hamburger pie before baking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave at a reduced power.
