Crack Dip is a fun, tasty, crowd-pleasing, easy ranch dip recipe perfect for movie nights, game days, and parties. This delicious cream cheese dip is loaded with sharp cheddar cheese, bacon, green onion, and ranch seasoning.
This dip comes with a word of caution as the flavor is slightly addicting. Serve this delicious dip recipe with crackers, chips, and veggies like broccoli florets and cucumber slices. If you like this dip, you will love my French onion dip, corn dip, 7-layer dip, and smoked salmon dip.
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
See the complete list of ingredients below on the recipe card.
- Cream cheese: full-fat block cream cheese offers the best flavor and texture
- Sour cream: full-fat for the best flavor
- Ranch dressing mix: You usually find this in the bottled dressing aisle, but you want the dry seasoning packet.
- Cheddar cheese: use sharp, mild, white, or smoked cheddar.
- Bacon: crispy cooked or real bacon bits
- Assorted dippers: crackers, potato chips, pita chips, and pretzels
How to make Crack Dip
This is the summary version; see the recipe card below for the complete list of ingredients and the instructions.
First, set aside 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar, chopped bacon, and green onions. Then add the cream cheese, sour cream, ranch seasoning mix, shredded cheddar cheese, green onions, and ground pepper to a medium mixing bowl.
Beat the mixture with a handheld electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Stir in the chopped bacon. Spoon into a serving bowl and garnish with the cheddar, bacon, and green onions you set aside. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
Preparation Tips
- Bring the cream cheese to room temperature for ease in making this creamy dip.
- Slice the green onions thin with a sharp knife. Using green and white parts of the green onion is fine.
- This dip is also delicious served warm. Spread it in a small baking dish and bake in a 400-degree oven for about 20 minutes. Garnish with green onions and bacon bits.
- Serve with crackers, potato chips, tortilla chips, pretzel crisps, Fritos, carrot sticks, celery sticks, or bell pepper wedges.
Variations for Crack Dip
- Cheeses: Sharp cheddar is my favorite cheese for this dip, but other cheeses that are delicious and work well include white cheddar, pepper jack, and Monterey Jack.
- Add a little heat: Add a little minced jalapeno, ground cayenne pepper, or chopped chipotle pepper with adobo sauce.
- Protein: Add cooked ground sausage or finely chopped cooked chicken.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Stir before reserving, and if available, top with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese and freshly sliced green onions.

I love crack dip! I’ve made it with buffalo chicken, though, not bacon. My son would love it with bacon as he’s obsessed.
