This family friendly quick and easy ground turkey meatloaf is seasoned with onion, garlic and oregano and topped with a quick three ingredient sweet glaze. This delicious alternative to beef and pork is just as tender and juicy with a lot less calories and fat.
Fall is approaching quickly and with it brings lots of hearty home cooking like Grandma used to make. This scrumptious easy ground turkey meatloaf is quick to come together and so full of flavor. The simple three ingredient sweet glaze takes this meatloaf over the top and keeps it nice and moist. I love to serve it with Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Bacon and Chives and Southern Green Beans.
How do you make Easy Turkey Meatloaf?
Grab a large bowl and add the ground turkey, minced garlic, chopped onion, dried oregano, freshly ground black pepper, bread crumbs, eggs and barbecue sauce. Using your clean hands or a strong spoon mix until well combined. In a large baking dish shape into a wide loaf as you don’t want it too thick so it bakes all the way through.
Now grab a small bowl and mix together the barbecue sauce, ketchup and Worcestershire Sauce. Spread about 1/3 of the glaze over the meatloaf and place in the oven. Be sure to wash this spoon afterwards since it touched raw meat. Bake for 40 minutes and then spread another 1/3 of the sauce over the meatloaf. Bake another 20-30 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Spread the rest of the sauce over the meatloaf and cover loosely with an aluminum foil tent. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.
Recipe notes and helpful tips
- For ease of clean up spray the baking dish with nonstick baking spray.
- Use lean fresh ground turkey (85% lean). Do not use turkey breast as it will be too lean and too dry for meatloaf.
- If at all possible use fresh breadcrumbs. Better yet make your own.
- I like to use Kansas City style barbecue sauce because it is just so full of flavor and light on sugar. However your favorite barbecue sauce will work just fine.
- When shaping the meatloaf make it into more of a dome shape. You do not want it so thick that it does not cook all the way through.
- There is no need for added salt in this recipe since most jarred barbecue sauces have plenty of sodium in them.
- The meatloaf is done when the internal temperature reaches 155-160 degrees.
- For leftovers try my Grilled Meatloaf Sandwich with Chipotle Ketchup.
