Mini Corn Dog Ingredients
How to make Mini Corn Dogs
Start by cutting your hot dogs in half. Next, dry the hot dogs well with paper towels. Thread the hot dog onto a popsicle stick or lollipop stick. Whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add the egg and buttermilk and stir to combine. Pour the batter into a measuring cup or glass for ease in dipping the dogs. Let the mixture sit for about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat the oil in a Dutch oven or heavy skillet to 375 degrees. I use a candy thermometer hooked to the side of the Dutch oven to try to stay at the temperature. Fully dip each hotdog into the batter and turn to coat. Then, carefully put it right in the hot oil. Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Work in small batches and cook a few at a time. For best taste results, serve promptly.
Recipe Tips
- Let the batter sit for about 15-20 minutes after mixing it.
- You can use beef, chicken, or turkey hotdogs. You can also make full-size corn dogs with the same recipe instructions; skip cutting the hot dogs in half.
- Make your own buttermilk by adding 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice to 1/2 cup milk. Then, let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Be sure to purchase food-grade popsicle sticks and or lollipop sticks. Craft sticks are not intended for use with recipes.
- If you have trouble getting the batter to stick, roll the hot dogs in flour before dipping them in the batter.
- Work in small batches to help maintain a more consistent oil temperature, as does using a heavy pan like a Dutch oven.
- Corn dogs are best cooked in oil that is 375 degrees. Maintaining a constant temperature can be tricky. Remember that the oil temperature drops when you add food and increases when you remove it, so you must bump it down or up a bit when the time calls for it.
What to Serve With Mini Corn Dogs
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. For best results, reheat in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 1-2 minutes or in the oven on a baking sheet at 375 degrees for 7-10 minutes.

I have never made mini corn dogs and often have trouble finding them at the grocery so this recipe is going to come in handy to make them at home for my kiddos. They prefer the minis over the full dog and less waste that way too. Thanks

Thanks for the tip of dipping hot dogs in flour first so that the batter sticks to them! I l had always had this problem.
