Ingredients
2lbsfresh strawberries washed and dried very well
12ounceschocolate chipsdark, semisweet, milk or white, or a combination
2-3teaspoonscoconut oil or shortening
Assorted finely chopped nutsgraham cracker crumbs, crushed sandwich cookies or sprinkles
Instructions
Melt chocolate in a mini crock pot or microwave. (see notes)
Stir in 1-1 1/2 teaspoons of coconut oil to the melted chocolate to thin it just a bit.
Dip strawberries in melted chocolate and place them on parchment-covered baking sheets.
Using a small spoon sprinkle some of the strawberries with chopped nuts, graham cracker crumbs, sprinkles, or crushed cookies. Place in refrigerator to set.
If drizzling the strawberries, spoon several tablespoons of melted chocolate into a zipper sandwich bag and snip off a tiny corner. Drizzle over fully set strawberries.
Notes
After washing, dry the strawberries thoroughly, including the leaves of the stem, with paper towels so the chocolate sticks and does not seize. Any moisture can cause chocolate to seize.
If using nuts or graham cracker crumbs, chop or crush very finely and spoon over the strawberries before the chocolate sets.
Melt the milk chocolate or dark chocolate in a mini crock pot. However, heat the white chocolate in the microwave at reduced power as it is slightly more heat-sensitive.
To drizzle the chocolate, add the melted chocolate to the corner of a plastic sandwich bag and then snip off a very small corner. Drizzle over dipped and set chocolate strawberries.
If you have any leftover melted chocolate, grab some cashews, almonds, or peanuts and mix them in the melted chocolate. Spoon by heaping tablespoons full onto parchment paper for quick and easy nut clusters.
